Insist on genuine sheepskin

The unique properties of genuine sheep skin cannot be replicated by any manufacturing process. It is not possible to individually implant around 5,000 fibres per square centimetre in to a backing material, as can be found in sheepskin.

All too often the term ‘sheepskin’ is used to describe a range of products that often bear little or no resemblance to real sheepskin, other than a fur-like pile or appearance.

Sheepskin footwear

Sheepskin has thermostatic properties that maintain a comfortable warmth to your feet in all climates. The sheep skin fibres offer far superior comfort and feel than any synthetics or woven wool products. Also genuine sheepskin slippers or boots will last far longer than most synthetics.

Medical sheepskins and sheepskin bedding

For medical skins (such as the Bowron and sheepskin underlays, genuine sheep skin provides dense wool fibres that cushion body weight and distribute pressure more evenly. They also have an excellent capacity to rapidly absorb and dissipate moisture away from the body alleviating discomfort to immobile patients.

Sheepskin / lambskin rugs

Due to the natural lanolin in the wool, genuine sheepskin tends to be self-cleaning, thus reducing cleaning costs.

How to identify real sheep skin

Only real sheep skin has a leather back. Manufactured fabrics have a knit back that may be coated with a rubber or plasticized material.

Insist on sheepskin

Remember, if it doesn't say it is made from real sheepskins, it probably isn't. For all these unique properties, insist on genuine sheepskin.
